A random, yet brief, meeting in 2012 between twenty-nine-year-old US Army Captain Andrew McNeil and forty-six-year-old Retired US Army Lieutenant-Colonel Olivia Jarrett at the Dulles Airport in Washington, DC, may have seemed insignificant at the time. Both were returning home to Los Angeles.

Andrew McNeil found himself surreptitiously attracted to this unbelievably gorgeous older woman who generously handed him a fresh cup of coffee while they waited for their flight. They engaged in fifteen seconds of small talk, and that was it.

Years later, LAPD Detective Andrew McNeil unexpectedly crossed paths with Dr. Olivia Jarrett at University Medical Center in LA. McNeil thought Dr. Jarrett seemed familiar but couldn’t say why. Nevertheless, he and the doctor became inextricably connected in friendship through their shared wartime experiences and post-traumatic stress.

Andrew never meant to sweep the beautiful, kick-ass surgeon into his chaotic vortex, but he did. Now, forces of nature are doing everything they can to interfere in the couple’s deepening friendship, putting time and distance between them and refamiliarizing them both with the nightmare of war and the pain of loss.
